A solar and wind power installation at sunrise

Why we're building this

Solapur loses power for 3 to 6 hours most evenings. Kids do homework by phone flashlight, and shopkeepers close early. Sol is a solar lantern that also charges a phone — built to survive a full monsoon on a windowsill.

We've tested three prototypes with 40 families across two districts. This campaign funds our first production run of 5,000 units.

Three prototypes, two monsoons

Prototype 1 leaked in the first week of testing. Prototype 2 survived the rain but the solar panel cracked in transit. Prototype 3 — the one shipping to backers — has passed an IP65 spray test and a 1.2 metre drop test, ten times each.

Every unit is assembled and tested in our Pune workshop before it ships.

“We lose power almost every evening in Solapur. My daughter used a Sol prototype for a month and it never once died before her homework was done.”
