A single Kadalasu takes eleven days. Nine of those are spent on the granulation — thousands of gold beads, each placed by hand and fused without solder, a technique that has not changed materially since the Chera period. There is no machine version of this. If there were, we would still not use it, because the small irregularities are the reason the surface catches light the way it does.
The collection is shown by appointment at our Kochi atelier, and travels to Mumbai and Bengaluru twice a year. Viewings run ninety minutes and there is never anyone else in the room.
