GREEN VERGE COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP
Saturday 15 May 2027, 7am to 11am, along the Buckingham Canal at Kodungaiyur. We supply the bags, the tools, the breakfast, and someone who knows what they are doing. You bring whoever you can talk into coming.
Meet at the Kodungaiyur bridge from 6:45am. Look for the green flags and the tea stall — we take one over every clean-up morning and the tea is on us. Sign in, grab gloves and a bag, and get put in a group of eight.
Each group takes about eighty metres of bank. Sorting into four streams as you collect is what makes the difference — unsorted bags mostly end up back in landfill, and every group has someone who will show you how.
The last hour is replanting — pungam, neem, and portia saplings along the cleared bank, all raised in the Kodungaiyur nursery. Breakfast is at 10:30 and nobody has ever left hungry.
Sign up so we bring enough gloves and breakfast. Bring children, bring your neighbours, bring your office — groups of any size are welcome, just tell us roughly how many.
“I brought my two kids expecting to last an hour. They made me stay until the breakfast ran out and have asked about the next one every week since.”

“Our whole team came instead of doing an offsite. It cost nothing, and it is the only team day anyone still talks about.”

“I have lived beside this canal for thirty-one years. I did not think anything would change. Then a hundred people showed up on a Saturday, and it did.”
